Lollipop Day!

Last Friday we went to town to sell lollies for lollipop day. Lollipop day is to raise awareness of oesophageal cancer and get funds too. We were put into groups of 5 and given 3 buckets between us. We were selling lollies and badges for €2 and then had stickers as well.  We got lots of donations which was great and also had fun. Before we got the bus home we went to McDonalds for lunch!!

Junk Kouture

Last week we had our ty Junk Kouture fashion show in school. We were put into groups of 4 at the start of the year and asked to make  an outfit make out of recycled materials! My group make a skirt and top out of newspaper. The top is plain newspaper but the skirt it punched holed died newspaper leaves. Our theme was paper fairy so we made a wand + wings with the newspaper leaves as well! We also made a headband out of wires and shoes covered in newspaper. Our song was Wings by Little Mix as it went well with our theme. I was the model in my group. There was 3 judges who were the home economics teachers. Some classes from our school saw the show. We all strutted our stuff down the "catwalk" and had a great time!!

Book Review- The Great Gatsby

The Great Gatsby

The Great Gatsby is a 1925 short novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The novel follows a cast of characters living in the town of West Egg in Long Island in the summer of 1922. The story mainly concerns the mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby and his obsession with the charming Daisy Buchanan. The events in the novel are told by the narrator, Nick Carraway, a young Yale graduate and Daisy's cousin. Upon moving to New York, he rents a house next door to the Gatsby Mansion. Every weekend, Gatsby throws an extravagant party at his mansion and all the young and influential people come.

But Gatsby is unhappy. Long ago Gatsby fell in love with a young girl, Daisy. Although she has always loved Gatsby, she is currently married to Tom Buchanan. Gatsby asks Nick to help him meet Daisy and Nick agrees. The two ex-lovers meet and soon rekindle their affair. Tom begins to suspect, and challenges the two of them causing a twist in the plot. Alongside this affair Nick is also seeing Daisy's friend, Jordan Baker.

The Great Gatsby is a short piece of American fiction.  I think the novel deals with joy and tragedy and captures the different sections of society in America in the 1920s. I found the language and start of the novel difficult to read but overall I really enjoyed it. The last few chapters defiantly had me gripped to the last page! I would recommend the novel to teenagers and would give it a rating of four out of five.

Last day of work experience in Scoil Naomh Bríd :(

The 27th of November was my last work experience in Scoil Naomh Bríd. I started the day by sorting some of the teacher files as the parents teacher meetings were taking place after the school day was ended. I stuck some posters up on the wall and read the girls a book. After lunch I gave the teacher and the principal a box of chocolates and a card to say thanks for my work experience because I enjoyed it so much. I gave all the girls in my class a lolly which they were very happy about!! At the end of the day all the girls gave me hugs, saying thanks and goodbye. I felt quite sad to be leaving and I knew I would miss the junior infants girls and the teacher Lisa.  Sometimes I found it boring and tiring but overall I had a great work experience in Scoil Naomh Bríd!!

CJFM

About 2 weeks ago our year was asked to do a flash mob to promote this years musical Camity Jane. Only TY's + a selection of staff knew!  We combined "the windy city" (a Camity Jane song) + animal + 6 girls came up with a dance. We learned the dance pretty fast although some moves took longer than others to get right!! We had to practice in secret + during class time so the rest of school wouldn't find out. CJFM ( Calamity Jane flash mob) became our secret code ;) Finally we had our first chance to try the dance out one lunch time in school! At 10 to 2 "windy city" was played on the intercom and 1 by 1 we began to dance in the courtyard. The whole school was looking through all the windows and  surrounding the courtyard.....it was a success I think!

Then on Saturday it was the real thing. The Celbridge christmas lights were being turned on in the church courtyard and we would perform our flash mob! We gathered before hand and then "casually" hung around the church! We gave out some leaflets about the musical and suddenly we started to dance....waving our hands and stamping our feet!! We did it and the excitement afterwards was great! Celbridge's first ever flash mob!! And there's more flash mobbing to come in a different secret location.......

Zumba zumba zumba!!!

One of the many activities in TY this year is Zumba which we started last week. Zumba is dancing but exercising at the same time. The instructor shows us the steps and we just copy. At the start everyone was kinda nervous and shy but soon everyone was putting their all into it! The music consists of recent upbeat and zumba songs. I love it even though I can't dance!! We will be doing it once a week till Christmas so I can't wait to see what the next few weeks bring in Zumbaaa!!!

Here is my favourite Zumba song :)
